75 for 75 Parks Canada Trail Challenge

Prince Edward Island National Park of Canada 75-for-75 Trail Challenge

All are invited to celebrate 75 years of Prince Edward Island National Park by getting active and taking the 75-for-75 Trail Challenge. Together with the Parks and People Cooperating Association and go! PEI, Parks Canada challenges visitors and Islanders to run, hike or bike 75 km in PEI National Park before October 8, 2012. All those who complete the challenge will receive a memento for their accomplishment.

There are three challenge categories to choose from: The Classic 75 challenges participants to complete 75 km of trails or beaches; the Trail Challenge is to complete all 15 trails in PEI National Park and the Family Challenge is to accumulate 75 km of trails or beaches as a family.

Participants can register online at www.parksandpeople.ca, choose their challenge and track their success! All who complete the Classic 75 will be invited to a celebratory barbeque in October 2012!

Royal Visit at Dalvay, July 4, 2011

Everyone here at Dalvay was honoured to play such an important role in the Royal Tour of PEI.

Following Their Royal Highnesses visit to Charlottetown, they departed for historic Dalvay By-The-Sea resort. “The Royal Tour is truly an Island-wide celebration and each region of our province will be recognized during the festivities in Dalvay,” said Premier Ghiz. “Local musicians and artists representing our province’s different cultures and communities will have a special opportunity to perform for Their Royal Highnesses.”

At 11:50 a.m., Their Royal Highnesses arrived at the Dalvay area. In full Canadian Forces flight suit, His Royal Highness participated in a training exercise at Dalvayorganized by the Department of National Defence.

The couple then participated in a dragon boat race across Dalvay Lake where they were greeted at the finish line by Prince Edward Island Olympic gold medalist, Heather Moyse. Dragon boat teams consisted of professional dragon boat racers and Prince Edward Island athletes. Their Royal Highnesses then took part in a traditional Mi’kmaq smudging ceremony led by Lennox Island First Nation Chief, Darlene Bernard and Abegweit First Nation Chief, Brian Francis.

Prince Edward Island’s Aboriginal, Acadian and Celtic cultures were then celebrated in different performance areas on the Dalvay grounds culminating in a grand finale by the entire group created specifically for Their Royal Highnesses. In addition, Prince Edward Island’s famous seafood and other culinary delights were showcased through the work of chefs from the Culinary Institute of Canada.
